Rush Limbaugh Defends the LRA
This was a blog I wrote for class. I created a separate blog for the assignment. I’m about to completely revamp that particular blog for something completely different and I’m deleting all the old content. I was particularly fond of this article I wrote. Even though it’s old news, I kept it and transferred it over here. Enjoy!
Attempting to tarnish President Obama reputation, radio personality Rush Limbaugh criticized the President’s decision to send military forces into Africa to help stop the LRA.
“Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) are Christians.” stated Limbaugh “They are fighting the Muslims in Sudan. And Obama has sent troops to remove them from the battlefield.”
Limbaugh tried to make the connection that Obama was aiding Muslims and killing Christians in Uganda. Limbaugh read the LRA’s mission statement from Wikipedia, which states that the group’s purpose is “to remove dictatorship and stop the oppression of our people.”
Limbaugh found this to be admirable. What Rush Limbaugh doesn’t understand is that the LRA is not a Christian organization.
In a petty attempt to taint Obama’s name, Limbaugh defended one of the most notorious terrorist groups that the world has ever known.
“The group has notoriously gone through Uganda capturing children and turning them into soldiers and, when not successful, murdering them,” said Erick Erickson, editor-in-chief of RedState.com. “The group engages in sex trafficking, slavery, murder, mutilation, and the list goes on and on.”
Since December of 2009, the LRA has killed 955 civilians and abducted 1804 people according to the LRA Crisis Tracker.
Limbaugh needs to set aside his opinions of Obama for the time being and use his influence and voice to bring an end to this horrible organization.
